Last night, British comedian Russell Brand took shots at the Jonas Brothers during MTV’s Video Music Awards.
During his opening monologue, Brand had poked fun at the Jonas Brothers and their wearing of purity rings, suggesting that they should be taking advantage of their celebrity to win dates. (Brand, himself, is a famous lothario in his native England.)
Later before introducing a performance from T.I, Jordan Sparks, 18 years old and former American Idol, defended the Jonas Brothers and purity rings stating “not everybody wants to be a slut.” People magazine reported that her comments were met by an audible cheer from the crowd. Jordan Sparks has long spoken publicity about holding onto her virginity. She, too, wears a purity ring.

I think that what he said was completely uncalled for. And that he pretty much dug himself into a bigger hole with that apology (which didn’t really even sound like an apology) I feel like purity rings are a great idea if you take it seriously and are committed to it. And that he shouldn’t have made fun of them because alot of teens in america wear them and are serious about it. I also think that MTV is most likely a little peeved with him right now. aaaand end rant.
