There was a plan as the Catholic Youth Ministry Blog made the jump over to the new web format at the begriming of this month. (Of course, offering greater service / a jump in readership were mutually connected goals – - thanks for doing your part!) We are still fighting to get www.catholicymblog.com to make the cross-over as well. But, the plan for the blog make-over, you asked? How about:
- Get an RSS feed, which many are already using
- Be easier to find on search engines, especially related to blogs
where we are now the top hit in our category. - Be able to elicit comments from readers. It has been slowly building. (C’mon in, the water’s fine!) I hope to be able to write more comment-worthy stuff.
- Get on Facebook and learn about “community” and social networking
Yesterday, I made the official leap onto Facebook. (I think you can find and “friend” me here. Otherwise, a badge can be found in the lower left hand side of this page.) An early comment placed on “my wall” from APeX’s Gene Monterastelli celebrated my entry into the network with the caveat: “Welcome to the end of productivity.”
Another caution came in this reminder from Anastasia of YPullse that more and more employers are looking at social networking profiles as part of the screening process.
Watch out and protect your reputations, folks! Let us never be a source of scandal or embarrassment to the church from our “second lives” on-line. Encourage the kids with whom you minister to also be vigilant do the same.
