This seems to be the summer of catholic youth ministry tech love. First, Stubenville on the Bayou offered a live feed on the net of their conference on the previous weekend. Now, the Diocese of Arlington is tweeting their annual summer work camp. We’re talking 500 high school aged young people making a difference for the Lord in Northern Virginia, alongside over 200 adult volunteers, youth ministers and contractors. Twitter micro-bloggers will include Steve Angrisano and diocesan director Kevin Bohli.
You can catch all the updates . More importantly, so can hundreds and hundreds of parents. On Saturday, when all those kids are being picked up and parents ask, “So, What happened?” and teens classically respond “Nothing really…,” those same parents can ask follow-up questions about something they read throughout this week. yea, it’s tech, yea, it’s showy… but it’s also empowering parents!

We have had 2500 page visits on the Twitter feed in the first two days…so we think that the parents are following along. While the teens are completely “unplugged” for the week (cell phones are not permitted) we are allowing each of the crew “devotional leaders” to tell us little daily stories and inspirations that we can post on Twitter at the end of each day.
