Missing-issippi

ms08Not sure that I could find any youth ministry information in either Biloxi (except for a page last modified in August, 2007) or Jackson.

Anyone want to set me straight or direct me to other sites available in the Magnolia State?

bartsorry UPDATE:  Wow, did I totally get set straight on the Magnolia State.  Something was missing all right! See Brenda’s comment in the comment section below.

Here was the response I sent to her:

Brenda: all right… totally owe you an apology…

I do look try to look deep into diocesan websites because I am attempting to find something interesting and distinct about which to blog.  I also, however, do the states blog entries sometimes 5 to 10 a day which can mean anywhere from 15-40 diocesan sites within a day.  Clearly, I got caught skimming when it came to Biloxi.

> If I had done a better job, we all would have read a comment that every year during August and September the Biloxi office of youth ministry holds meetings for youth ministers, new and experienced. We do the same in Baltimore with our youth contact meeting.
> If I had done a better job, there could had been a note regarding how both of the staff members of OYM are here ready to serve the field and that your folks are encouraged to call and share a success or ask for some guidance in regards to programs or young people as a whole.
> If I had done a better job, we could have all heard about the Search program – a peer led three day retreat which is held two times a year with hundreds of high school juniors and seniors normally attended one those weekends.
> If I had done a better job, I could of enthused about how cool the pictures looked from the Mound Bayou Experience.
> If I had done a better job, we could have been making mention of your cats Chelsea and Izzy

As the person that attempts to keep our own diocesan site up to date, I do appreciate how challenging that this task can be, especially in an office with limited resources.

I am sorry for the tone of the post and will be immediately making changes to it….  While still keeping your comment intact.

Thank you for calling this to my attention.

Looking harder into Jackson, I see that they are grouping Confirmation celebrations, something we are also looking at locally. They also will be conducting a Search retreat during the first weekend of December.

  1. Dear Scott,
I am writing in reference to your latest blog about Missing-issippi. I am very disappointed, but it seems you do not take time to read websites. If you would have taken the time to look at the website you would have noticed all the up to date information on it. We try to keep our calendar up to date and post pictures of our youth groups latest summer events. WE are a small mission diocese and have two people in our Office of Youth Ministry. We are fortunate enough to be able to maintain our own website. The date you saw was the last date our Office of Internet Technology last updated the program.

We are only a mission diocese with two people working in the office. We try to keep our Calendar up to date. We highlight our youth groups summer events and presently organizing the NCYC 09 trip.

I know your blog is well known and read. I don’t want people to think we do not care enough about our Kids not to keep them informed.

I should have waited a day or two before I wrote this, but my step back access and react method just did not work today. Just had to let you know….. that we are always a work in progress….. God Bless
