Move Away From the Wall

caffeine Opportunity dances with those already on the dance floor.

H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

No matter how attractive the Song, it always seems somewhat safer to be the wall-flower. Dancing certainly can seem that thing that other people, certainly not we, might do. When entering into the Song, there is always that inherent risk of looking a little goofy, not knowing the steps or moves, not having a sense of rhythm, not getting it right the first time. Dancing involves commitment of the body, and one might remain uncertain of their two left feet; or lack confidence in how to move legs or hips; it is very confusing as to what one is supposed to do with their arms and hands. Dancing is nerve-wracking! Disciples, however, are to be found on the dance floor.

The Love Languages of Discipleship encourage us to be witnesses to life and faith as well as active participants within the life of faith.

In Evangelization, we exhibit the pleasure and joy of our own participation in the dance.

wallflowerWe have freely entered into the dance, why not come and join us? The dance brings meaning to my life and existence, do you want that? Here, we acknowledge that the dance of faith is ours and it is working for us. It makes us happy. It brings us to life. We are not dancing alone, it is a pretty good sort of crowd, please come off the wall and onto the floor.

In Catechesis, we acknowledge that there is two centuries worth of thought and practice that go into each step we take. Full and active participation requires conscious knowledgeable participation. There is structure and rhythm that is a part of our dance. There are boundaries that help us to determine that which is appropriate in our common understanding of the dance of faith. Our sense of sacrament, our community life, and our belief and imagination require training and formation.
