At what point did becoming a Catholic Christian become safe?
Jesus said, “whoever does not take up the cross and follow me is not worthy of me,” (Matthew 10:38) not fit to be my disciple. This comment follows the warning that as a disciple “you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” (Matthew 10:21)
Which comes first- our faith or our life direction? Is our faith safe and therefore makes our life direction safe? This seemingly contradicts the above scripture passages. Catholic Christians are to follow the model of a Messiah who died as a result of his mission and ministry. Our tradition and history are filled with saints who had a dangerous faith that inspired others, changed history, but also often merited themselves untimely deaths.
Safe?
