It happens annually around this time and,
every year, I miss notice about it, and then
drive by the convention center late on a summer’s evening, see the crowd of young people dressed up for this convention,
and think to myself, “Duuuuude, what was in those brownies they were giving away in the parish hall tonight?”
Each summer Baltimore is taken over by the Okaton Generation conference, where eighty-some THOUSAND descend on Baltimore to celebrate all anime, manga, and all facets of Asian pop culture!
And, not unlike San Diego’s Comic-Con, there is one heck of an amount of youngish folks walking the streets in costume, which will mess up a tired, late night drive home.
The Rich Dennison/ Baltimore Daily Record picture on your right captures some of the conference goers on their way to a workshop or the exhibit hall or preparing to invade the third world… I’m unsure!
All this is to say it is the first Saturday of the month so it must be time for a “CaptionThis” contest.
<<<UPDATE: We have a winner! Vince suggested: “I’m not sure the hiring committee was entirely honest about the challenges facing youth ministry in this parish!!”
Congratulations, Vince!
Just for the record… this is the only time I played along on this game… In my mind, until now, was this entry…
“And now, making their back to the stage for the second act is the cast of Mike Patin: the Musical…”

And the other side of the looking glass invades Baltimore!

Masquerade, paper faces on display … masquerade, take your fill, let the spectacle astound you…
(Anyone who knows Phantom can see the comparison to this scene and the scene on the staircase)

Captain America always enjoyed taking time off to truly be himself, yet this vacation led him to experience more strange and new cultures than he felt comfortable with.
