I first heard Ike Ndolo’s version of Wade in the Water at the Pally and Mass for Life in DC a few Januarys back… and immediately fell in love for his rocking version of it.
Many suggest that this classic Negro spiritual was used in Underground Railroad days as instruction for how fugitive slaves on how to avoid capture and the route to take to successfully make their way to freedom.
For Moses and the Isrealites, God “troubles” the water in Exodus 14 to ensure their path to freedom. Wade in the water, children, and trust in the Lord to trouble the conditions of life towards your freedom,
