ABOUT THE CATHOLIC YOUTH MINISTRY BLOGMay the peace of Christ be with you. Here’s the story of how your humble blogger, D. Scott Miller, got into this whole blogging thing.

While through a rough patch in his life in 2002,  he began to journal out various  feelings, observations…  trying to get a hold on what was real and what was important.  It was a bit of a spiritual act on introspection, seeking blessings amid life. For Scott, the journal was never a “handwritten in a spiral book” sort of thing, it was always typed out and filed into a computer folder.

Eventually, it became less about his my life and more about his world as a single father and as associate director of the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry.

In 2004, he began to put it all up on-line… off into a quiet corner of the NFCYM’s web-site. The first post on Friday, August 20, 2004, read as:Greetings to the World.  My name is D. Scott Miller and I am starting a bulletin board log (BLOG) of information that might be shared with the Catholic Youth Ministry community. . . This is just a starting point.  I’m not sure where it is going to go.  I hope it will be personal.  I hope it will be per-fess-ion-ale (despite occasional grammar errors and mis-spellings) I hope it will be a resource for friends in the field. And so, we begin.

Interestingly enough, the third post announced a news story that eventually led to his present position in the  Archdiocese of Baltimore.

With the move from the NFCYM, the blog moved onto the servers of RaspaNet (of DisciplesNow fame.)  A few years back, at the behest of his father and (then) landlord, Clark Miller learned everything that Scott needed to know about WordPress in a weekend and the blog migrated over to there.

The blog has been referred to as the “411 of Catholic Youth Ministry.”  It has been a vehicle to continue to explore new technologies to communicate within our field.

The goals of the Catholic Youth Ministry Blog remain the same… to serve as a resource for friends in the field.

  1. Scott,

I have been spending some time reading through your blog. It is so wonderful! I really enjoy your writing and being able to read about your work.

I was wondering if you might be interested in contributing some of your writing to the resource library for the website of the ministry that I am working with. You can see the resource library at http://www.calledtoyouthministry.com/resource and you can contribute by going to the contribute page on the site.
I think that you have a lot that you could contribute to the resource library and to others who are working to serve the Lord through ministering to youth.

Thank you so much for your work and for your writing. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
    God bless,
    Betsy

  5. Scott,
I just wanted to thank you for your amazing blog! As a person who has served as a parish youth minister/high school campus minister/ youth conference coordinator. I deeply appreciate your insight, support, and especially humor! While there are so many excellent resources out there, it’s nice to do a little “One stop shopping” and get what I need in one location. BTW, we had Mike Patin come up to our annual youth ralley here in NH a couple years ago, he was fantastic. I figure if he links to you you must be pretty fantastic as well!

Thanks for helping us who are out there in the front lines!
